Consider a four-piece band that lands in front of you for advice. They have a label offer on the table, a £60,000 advance, and a song climbing a playlist. They also have no agreement, just four friends, one bank account, and a handshake.
You are the adviser in the room. Before reading deal, you ask one question: do you have a band agreement? They don't. So today the band itself is the subject, and you are the one who has to see the cliff edge before they walk off it.
With nothing written down, English law already has an answer for them, and it is almost never the one they would have chosen.
