No artist works alone. The money question is always: who is in the room, and how is each paid?
Around any working artist sits a cast of people and companies, each with a defined job and a defined way of being paid. Once you can name them, the rest of the course is just detail about each one.
The quickest way to keep them straight is by how they are paid. Some take a percentage commission of the artist's income (managers, agents). Some are paid a fee for a piece of work (lawyers, business managers). And some are rights-based, they own or collect on a and live off its (labels, publishers, societies, platforms).
Hold that three-way split and no one in the cast is a mystery for long.
